illingham Synthonia CC has enjoyed a terrific season this
time around as their first team clinched promotion to the ECB
NYSD Premier League. Cricket Secretary Danny Phillips recently
took the time to tell us more about the club and the work they’ve
been doing lately.
CC: How long have you been involved and what first attracted
you to the club? CC: What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of
your role?
DP: I have been involved with Billingham Synthonia Cricket
Club for 25 years. My dad used to take me down to the ground
to watch as a young child and I have always been interested in
the sport. I joined the club in 1993 and began my scoring career
for the under 17’s, eventually moving up to be the first team
scorer in 1997 to the present day. Also I am now a committee
member and took on the role as Cricket Secretary in 2018. DP: The most challenging aspects are sorting out team
selections plus finding out player availability which is
unfortunately a major issue throughout clubs in our league.
The rewarding aspects are seeing our young juniors making the
step up to senior level and also having the success we have had
this season with double promotion in the club.
