notice to leave the ground at the end of
the season due to the Trustees wishing to
redevelop the ground for housing other
capital ventures.
We made the parish council aware
and unfortunately they were supportive
of the Trust and explained to us there
was no demand for cricket to be played in
Bromham, which I found hard to believe
in Bedford Boroughs largest village which
boasts a population of approaching 5,000
residents. Since then we have been renting
at Sharnbrook CC’s ground. Which is
great, they are superb and love us being
there. But it’s not our own home, which
I’m sure you understand.”
The Future
“Without a shadow of a doubt,
finding a new home within the Borough
is our priority. I have had promising talks
already with the local authority, a national
house builder and Bedfordshire Cricket
Board with regard to building our own
ground. We are hoping, should the plans
go ahead, for it to be an all-encompassing
facility providing cricket for all ages,
sexes and standards. It’s at very early
stages and I can’t say whether it’s going
to happen. However, I’m not going to die
wondering.
If the above goes to plan, I’ll
have my heart set on a recruitment
drive advertising for people from the
surrounding area to join. Setting up a
youth side and various male and female
adult teams playing throughout the week.
I am adamant that people will get into
this great game providing the facilities are
provided for them, all Cricket and sports
clubs should be an open shop for everyone
to join with a management structure in
place to promote the club and deal with
every eventuality that could occur on a
weekly basis together with providing a
sustainable growth plan.”
