CRICKET CLUB
B
lackley CC is a terrific
example of a club that
is playing a vital role in
their local community.
We caught up with their Secretary
Julie Pearson to find out more about
the good work that the club has been
doing in recent times.
Involvement
She told us, “I have been a member
of Blackley CC for 37 years and was
Secretary from 1981 to 1984 and again
for the last 22 years. I first joined
Blackley with my late husband (Stuart
Pearson) when he joined to play cricket
in 1978.”
The Role
“The most challenging aspects of
my role include trying to keep all the
paperwork up to date i.e. ensuring that
all the junior and senior registration
details are correct and registered with
the Halifax League, and organising
the Annual Presentation Dinner for
approximately 100 people.
The most rewarding is that the
club has a great reputation within the
Halifax League as having some of the
best facilities and that we are a well-run
and organised club. As I am heavily
involved in the running of the club this
makes me feel very proud.”
This Season
“The club always has a buoyant
atmosphere whether we are winning
or losing. It is a family club so there is
always a great social aspect with plenty
of children around which ensures that
everyone gets together after the match
for a chat and a drink. Our targets for
the rest of the season include trying to
ensure that the open age teams stay in
the Premier Division and that the junior
teams win some trophies.”
Youth
“Youth
cricket
is
extremely
important as it is the lifeblood of the
club for the future. We currently run
teams in the following age groups: U9,
U11, U13, U15 and U17 and this year we
also have an U7 team which has played
a couple of friendly matches.”
Community
“Blackley CC is situated in the small
village of Blackley and is very well
utilised by the local community. The
facilities are used by the local senior
school (Brooksbank) for cricket matches
and the clubhouse is used for meetings
and social events by various groups and
organisations i.e. Local Political Parties,
