Seaford Seaford CRICKET CLUB S eaford CC play their home games at the Salts Cricket Pavilion on Richmond Road and their first team currently competes in Division 1 of the East Sussex Cricket League. They are led by the team of President Geoff Beal and Chairman Phil Court and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance. Their first team has been in fine form so far in 2015, putting together a record of nine wins, three draws and two defeats from their fourteen league matches. This has left them sitting proudly atop the table with 331 points on the board. As long as they are able to keep up their recent level of performance it will be difficult for any of their rivals to catch them. There is a confidence amongst the players that they can go on to claim the title and this would be a just reward for their hard work. Seaford is not a club to focus solely upon their first XI however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth section. This part of the club looks to provide youngsters from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their juniors can progress in the coming years. In order to help ensure that these players enjoy a smooth transition into senior cricket they also run a number of additional sides. This allows them to gain experience of adult level cricket even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. Another benefit of having so many sides is that it allows the first XI to benefit from far greater strength in depth. If they are ever left short on numbers through injury or work commitments they have the option of calling players up with a limited amount of disruption. Seaford’s success on the field reflects a club that is cohesive, well run and superbly administered. Hopefully they will be able to keep up the good work for many years to come and Cricket Club Magazine wishes them the best of luck.
