aunton Deane CC is a terrific example of a
club that plays an important role in their
local community, providing people with the
opportunity to enjoy the game. Cricket Club
Magazine caught up with their Chairman Jason Squire to
find out more about the good work that they have been doing
lately.
He told us, “I have been Involved with the club since 1989
after moving from Australia to the UK with my family as a
16 year old. I fondly remember stumbling across the ground,
nervously introducing myself and within a week was playing
under 17 cricket for them.
“It is always challenging when you’re heavily involved in
a club, I would like more volunteers to step forward and for
those members and supporters to just appreciate what people
do for their club. It’s rewarding when the club is doing well on
and off the field and you feel appreciated.
“The mood is good at the moment; I think most members
can see we are working hard to modernise the club for the
future. We want to be successful on and off the field this season
and also to keep our fantastic youth system progressing.
“We have been very lucky to have our Youth Chairman
Keith Woodman running the juniors section for many years.
Under his guidance and enthusiasm we have a strong Youth
set up with many now coming through the senior league
teams. The Youth are our future. We are finding some smaller

“We are very much a community club that
offers cricket to anybody. We will do our
best to give everyone an opportunity.”
