CRICKET CLUB
S
andal CC is based on
Barnsley Road in Wakefield
and their first team currently
competes in Division 2 of the
Pontefract and District Cricket League.
They are led by the team of President
Richard Shackleton and Chairman
Ian Schofield and the club has made a
considerable amount of progress under
their guidance.

Their first team has been in fine form
so far this season with seven outright
wins and just one outright defeat from
their 12 league matches. This has left
them sitting in 2nd place in the table
with one hundred points on the board,
just three behind league leaders BrookWalton.
This
leaves
them
perfectly
positioned to go on and mount a serious
Championship Challenge over the
reminder of the season. As long as
they can keep up their recent
level of performance
they will be in
with a good chance of claiming some
silverware.
Sandal is not a club to focus solely
upon their senior section however an d
this is reflected by the fact that they also
have a number of youth sides running.
These team’s look to provide youngsters
from the local area with an opportunity
to play the game in a safe and enjoyable
environment whilst helping them to
reach their full potential.
It is important for any club to be able
to produce their own talent if they are
to be successful over a sustained period
and this is an area they appear to have
covered. It will certainly be exciting to
see how their juniors can progress over
the coming years.
In order to help ensure that these
players enjoy a smooth transition into
the senior game Sandal also runs a
2nd team. This allows them to gain
experience of adult level cricket even if
they are not yet considered ready for
first team action which can be an
important step in the development
process.
