barkisland FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/CRICKETCLUBMAG focused nature of the club, we are also fortunate to have a healthy membership who support the various teams with great enthusiasm! Under our Junior Co-ordinator, Dave Weston, we invest heavily in our thriving junior structure ranging from the ‘Barkisland Crickets’ all the way up to under 19’s. Special mention should 34 Issue 41 be made of our junior sponsor, Adrian Westbrook, for his continued generosity as, without his help, we could not provide the ‘production line’ of players for the senior teams. This season, amongst the professional cricketers and seasoned senior players in the First XI, we are delighted to have 4 young players who have all developed through our junior system and who still represent the club at junior level. I am absolutely convinced that we will have more future First XI cricketers who are currently playing for the under 13’s or throwing tennis balls at each other in the ‘Crickets’! I would say that the greatest pleasure for me and the rest of the Committee is when one of our juniors establishes himself in one of the senior teams or is selected for a League or County representative team. This is a long term strategy, of course, as we do not have the resources to pay the sort of money other clubs do but I am confident that this front end investment will reap great benefits into the future. In addition, we have managed to secure the help of Clare Taylor, ex England cricketer, in coaching our junior girls and this is the kind of investment we are keen to continue.
