CRICKET CLUB
B
arkisland is a small village
around 6 miles south-east of
Halifax in the Pennines of
West Yorkshire. The village
has had a cricket club since 1899 and
now supports 3 senior and 7 junior
teams, including a girls under 11 team
and a ‘mini’ cricket group for the under
7’s – ‘Barkisland Crickets’.
The first XI play in the top Division
of the Drakes Huddersfield League,
a league with a long and illustrious
history of top class cricket and players
stretching back well over a century.

The ‘John Maude Memorial Ground’
where the club play is situated right
in the heart of the village, next to the
Church, post office and school and,
accepting my bias, is the most beautiful
venue for cricket.
The ethos of the Club:
We are blessed with a picture
postcard ground and an envious location
but with that comes the responsibilities
of ensuring that the club has a sound
financial and people base to enable us to
continue to invest in our junior structure,
community links and playing/training
facilities into the future.
To that end, the Clubhouse
underwent a significant refurbishment
in 2013 and, under our Events Manager,
Alison Finch, is now used extensively
for non-cricket functions, charitable
events and as the base for many local
community groups. The nets area was
refurbished in 2012 and officially opened
by Sir Ian Botham. We are categorically
a non-profit organisation and all income
