Thurstonland Thurstonland CRICKET CLUB T hurstonland CC is a terrific example of the important role that a club can play in their local community. They are based at Marsh Hall Lane in Huddersfield and their first team currently competes in the Conference of the Huddersfield Cricket League. The earliest record of a game being played for the club was against New Mill on May 6th 1876. Since then the club has gone on to put together a history of which they have every right to be proud. M Oldham stands out as a key performer with the bat over the years and is their leading run scorer with 11730. From the bowling side of things D Rishton leads the way with 1155 wickets whilst both P. Brammall and Lee Booth have also distinguished themselves with 775 and 711 wickets respectively. Rishton also holds the record for most games played for the side having racked up 711 appearances. This season their first team has generally been in good form, having put together a record of five wins and three defeats from their ten matches played to date with the other two being abandoned. This sees them sitting in a solid mid-table position with 36 points on the board. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to build as they look to push on in the second half of the campaign. As long as they can retain their current group of players and keep up their recent level of performance they should be in with a good chance of a successful finish to the season. From the batting side of things Christopher Flanagan has proven himself to be one of the top batsmen in the league, scoring more than 500 runs in his 13 matches at an average of 63.
