They are led by Chairman Russell Greenwood while their Director of Cricket is Chris Rhodes and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. This season, their first team has put together a steady campaign up to now having compiled a record of six wins and six defeats from their thirteen matches with the other game being abandoned. This has left them in a midtable position with 143 points on the board. 22 Issue 41 It would be fair to say that they have not been in the best run of form of late and will be keen to turn this around as soon as possible. As long as they do so they should be in with a good chance of going on to claim a finish in the top half of the league. One of the standout features of the Gomersal set up is the superb youth section that the club currently has in place. This part of the club looks to provide youngsters from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any side to be able to produce their own talent if they are to be successful over a sustained period of time and this is an area that Gomersal appears to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress over the coming years. In order to help ensure that these players enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game Gomersal also have a 2nd XI running. This allows them to gain experience of adult level cricket even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. Another benefit of having an extra side is that it allows the first XI to benefit from far greater strength in depth.
