CRICKET CLUB
S
utton CC was first established
in 1857 when their home
matches were played on ‘The
Green’ in Sutton and since
then they have gone on to put together
a history of which they have every
right to be proud. They have achieved
ECB ‘Clubmark’ accreditation which
recognises that they provide good
quality cricket programmes for young
people.
When the club was first set up
Cheam Road, where the team plays now
was part of the Lower Cheam House
Estate owned by the Antrobus family
who offered its use to Sutton for the
following season.
They are now led by the team of
Chairman Ron Lambe and President
Ian Philippe and the club has made
a considerable amount of progress
under their guidance. Playing their
home games on Gander Green Lane
in Surrey their first team is competing
in the Premier Division of the Surrey
Championship.
At approximately the halfway point
in the season the team can be happy with
their efforts so far, having compiled
a record of six wins and three defeats
from their nine matches. This sees them
lying in 3rd place in the table with 141
points on the board.
The team have every right to be
happy with their performances so far
and will be keen to continue playing to
the same standard over their remaining
fixtures. Although catching runaway
leaders Sunbury looks unlikely the team
can still put together a campaign to be
proud of.
Sutton CC is not a club to focus solely
upon their senior section however and
this is reflected by the fact that they also
have a number of youth sides in place.
“Sutton’s form this season is a
testament to all the hard work
that has gone into making the
club a success in recent times.”
