CRICKET CLUB
E
versholt CC is a terrific
example of a village club
which plays a vital role
in the local community,
providing people with an opportunity
to play cricket. Their Head of Cricket
Alan Garratt took the time to tell us
more about the good work the club has
been doing lately.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been involved
in the club since I was born. My father
was first team captain for 19 years and
played until he was 55. As long as I can
remember I have spent my summer
weekends either playing or watching
cricket at Eversholt. It is a wonderful
place to play and I never wanted to play
anywhere else.
The Role
“The hardest part is keeping
everybody happy. We have a large
playing squad now and it is getting the
balance right between making sure we
give Cricket to all those who want to
play as well as making sure all our sides
are competitive.
Generally we are able to do this.
Seeing the players enjoying Cricket
at Eversholt is the most rewarding
especially when you see young
cricketers who have come through the
Junior section and play for the senior
XIs.”
2015
“We have launched a Sunday
second team for the first time for many
years so it is important that we make
this successful. We are continuing to
strengthen our first team and we are
very much aiming to replicate last
season where our two Saturday teams
and our Sunday team gained promotion.
The mood here is great at the
moment. The Saturday 1st XI, Saturday
2nd XI and Sunday 1st XI all gained
promotion during the 2014 season and
they hope to at least stay in their new
respective Divisions. The Saturday 1st XI
will play in the Saracens Hertfordshire
Premier Cricket League Division 2B
in 2015, the Saturday 2nd XI will play
in Division 6B and the Sunday 1st XI
will play in the Bedfordshire County
Cricket League Premier Division.
We’ve also introduced a Sunday 2nd
XI who will play in Division Five of the
Bedfordshire County Cricket League in
2015. This side will cater for the influx of
new players and juniors stepping up to
senior cricket.”
Lashings
“On Thursday, 30th July, 2015, we’ll
be hosting Lashings World XI for the fifth
time at Eversholt Cricket Ground. As in
previous years, this will be a fantastic
opportunity for players, officials and
supporters alike to play host to some of
the world’s greatest cricketers such as
Courtney Walsh, Darren Sammy, Grant
Elliott and Saqlain Mushtaq.
No-one who attended in 2007, 2009,
2011 and 2013 will forget the wonderful
“Junior cricket is highly regarded at Eversholt
Cricket Club. We have over 15 ECB qualified
coaches and an army of coaching support
workers who work tirelessly to ensure the next
generation enjoys the game as much as we do.”
