Jersey Post FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/CRICKETCLUBMAG Jersey Post CRICKET CLUB E stablished in the late eighties our club is based in Jersey in the Channel Islands. Initially, we were a social club side playing other social clubs each week. After a number of years without losing a game we decided to approach the Jersey Cricket Association to enter the evening league in the 3rd Division. Winning Div 3 in 1999 we progressed quickly to the evening 1st division by also winning the 2nd Div in 2001 picking up some very talented players along the way. When joining the evening league we knew we would be likely to have various sponsors over the coming years and decided that we should call our club “The Armchair Cricket Club” to ensure we didn’t have to continuously change the bank account mandate. Over the years in the evening league we have been known as “Air Conditioning Jersey” “Optimus” and currently “Jersey Post”. During this period we also joined the Indoor Cricket league. Due to our players now all being a good standard the league the Committee decided we should enter directly into Div 1. Our team in the indoor league was known as “Abbey International” and “Optimus” as “Abbey International” we won Division One six times and were 6 Issue 39 runners up once, as “Optimus” we won the league once. Around 2005 we joined the Weekend Premier leagues where we won the Premiership twice as “Romerils”. We also won the Knock-out Cup twice (Once as “Romerils” and once as “Optimus”. We also won the Channel Islands Club Championship in 2009 as “Optimus”. A s indicated above we were running teams in all forms of cricket over a number of years including a school team. Each Premiership team were responsible for coaching a school team which then played in a school league under the Premiership name and acted as a feed into the Premiership club. After winning the Channel Islands Championship in 2009 a considerable amount of our Premiership players decided to call it a day and so we were left with no option but to withdraw from the Premiership and 1st Division of the weekend league. We still had a few players that were interested in playing Evening League and Indoor cricket but were not at Division 1 standard. We decided therefore to request a drop down to Division 3 to ensure we could still be competitive with the intention of regrouping over a number of years with the possibility of re-entering the weekend l e a g u e sometime in the future. We currently run Evening League and Indoor League teams both in the 3rd Div. Our players also picked up numerous individual awards from the Jersey Cricket Board over that period. Ryan Driver (an exprofessional cricketer who played for Worcestershire and Lancaster) played for and captained our Premiership team as well as the Jersey Island Cricket Team.
