CRICKET CLUB
M
anderston CC is one
of Scotland’s oldest
Cricket Clubs having
first been established
in 1899 and they are based in Duns in
Scotland. They are led by President
Richard Swan whilst Hayden Martin
is the club’s first team captain and
they have made a considerable
amount of progress under their
guidance.
The first game they
ever played saw them
bowled out for 33
when the Reverend
J.E.
Sedgewick’s
XI beat them by
a
considerable
margin. Since
then they have
put together
a history of
which they
have every

The
cricket

itself
is
just
behind the historic
Manderston
House
and is well known for the
stunning views available.
It has also built a reputation
for having one of the best wickets
in the Borders and this is a testament
to the fantastic work that is done
maintaining it. Having a good wicket
plays a crucial role in the development
of players at any level and is important
in allowing a good level of competitive
cricket.
MCC compete in friendly matches
against clubs looking for similar
fixtures. Don’t be fooled by the term
‘friendly’ however as their games are
fiercely competitive and always played
in a great atmosphere within the true
spirit of cricket.
Many of the fixtures that they take
part in are 40 over Sunday afternoon
matches although they also play in some
20 over games through the week.
Regardless of the fixture or the
result their matches always
include
cheerfulness
and enthusiasm.
