Acomb FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/CRICKETCLUBMAG went our way, and we got the promotion we so desperately wanted.” 2015 “2015 sees the start of a major overhaul in the structure of league cricket in Yorkshire, with a new pyramid system beginning to be implemented. In 2015 this means that there will be no promotion/relegation from the Premier Division (another great reason to get promoted last season) with the top 6 clubs going up into a newly formed ‘Elite’ division – I think that this is within the clubs reach this season, and we will be working hard to get ourselves into a good position to be challenging for a top 6 spot, at the back end of the season. The 2nd and 3rd teams will both be hopeful of gaining promotion as well, after their good seasons last year.” Atmosphere “The mood here is generally very good, there is a lot of excitement, and probably a bit of trepidation as this new structure takes hold; as it is a bit of an unknown, but we know the guys in charge of our league will be looking out for us, and it will give everyone at the club a better game of cricket. Off the field we have always had a great atmosphere – our clubhouse is always full until closing time after the games, the social side of things has always been an area which we have particularly excelled at!” Ambitions “Our ambitions will be to play at as high a level as possible in each and every team; get as many of our juniors as possible playing in senior cricket, and to provide anybody who wants one, with a place to go to play cricket, for a drink, to see friends, etc etc. We take great pride in our club and want to continue to work hard to make it as good a club as it can be.” THE SUN We have a large variety of Ales, Lagers and Food on offer. We have a thriving junior section led by the enigmatic Simon ‘Georgie’ Brown who is helped out by an army of coaches who run a training night every Friday throughout the summer. We have at least one team at each level from under 9’s to under 15’s, with many of them having 2 teams. We also have a girls team. We are a ‘clubmark’ registered club, and are always increasing the number of qualified personnel looking after juniors. We have a dedicated junior sponsor – All Out Cricket Coaching – which is run by a club member who gives particular support to our junior section, enabling them to keep progressing.” Community “We are absolutely a community club - I live a few hundred yards from the ground, as do (or did!) a large number of the senior players. We are open as a social club all year round and have social members coming into the bar, enjoying the facilities, 6 nights a week, all year round.” NO COMPAR150N Challenges “On a playing level the club will be faced with new, better quality teams to play against, as well as the possible re-introduction of overseas players, which gives the cash rich clubs a distinct advantage, so upping our game to this level will be a challenge, one which we have already begun to try and meet by recruiting well over the past few years. This will have a knock on affect down the leagues, and we want our 2’s and 3’s to also progress. We have made big strides off the field as well in the past few years, and our challenge is also to keep this on the current up-curve.” 32 Issue 39 UNLOCK THE BEST OF 150 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN SALES AND LETTINGS 1 Carr Lane, Acomb, York YO26 5HT Tel: 01904 782621
