Wisbech Youth “One of the reasons that I joined Wisbech was the youth set up. We now run seven junior teams from under 10 to under16 and they are encouraged to play senior cricket as soon as they are allowed. Our cricket week in August is a highlight of the summer and is regular fixture for the school holidays and some parents ask in December to know which week that it will take place in order that their summer holidays don’t clash!” Challenges/Ambitions “Our biggest challenges include player retention, attracting youngsters from the local schools and ensuring that the club is a fully integrated club and not just a series of teams that meet up on a Saturday or Sunday, play their fixture and leave. This is our big priority. We have ambitions to achieve East Anglia Premier League status, as do several of the Cambridgeshire Premier League teams. We believe that we are putting the infrastructure in place to support this aim both on and off the field. This must come from developing the youngsters and providing the best and most welcoming facilities that we can. In order to achieve this we are in the process, along with our sister club Wisbech Town Hockey Club, of putting a bid together to modernize and extend the pavilion to provide better and more changing facilities and a larger bar and social area. Once these are in place we will push to establish a ladies team.” Custom Made Equipment At Affordable Prices... Visit our website for more information www.gdfcricket.co.uk www.sportip.biz 13
