our U13s in the last year. We have a very good reputation of
bringing youth talent through the junior ranks and into the adult
teams. Last season 7-8 of the 1st XI all started their careers at
Horden as junior cricketers and the 2nd XI has around 9-10 who
have come through the junior ranks.
Recruiting juniors to the club has generally become more
difficult over the years due to football now becoming a 12 month
a year sport and traditionally cricket is an expensive sport to
start in (equipment costs). We do have links with a couple of
local schools as have had our coaches run sessions after school
which helps with the recruitment however we do have a high
concentration of clubs around us being a colliery village.”

Ambitions
“Our ambitions are quite simple; win our current league, gain
promotion to the NEPL2, Win that, Gain promotion to the NEPL1
and try to mix it with the big boys! We have a lot of plans for
both the playing side and for ground development. The ground
is owned by the Parish Council so there are restrictions on what
we are able to do however we would like to raise the money for a
new pavilion and changing rooms and some permanent practise
facilities.”
