then Jimmy Anderson and the rest of the
England attack will be likely to take full
advantage. It promises to be a fine series.
Before that, England also have an
intriguing match up against Ireland who
will be looking to continue their transition
into Test Cricket with a competitive
performance. It will certainly be interesting
to see how they fare.
The test series defeat to the West Indies
was disappointing for England but it was
also a major boost for their opponents
who managed to combine some brilliant
individual performances with a solid team
approach which will hopefully stand them
in good stead for the future.
They backed that up with some promising
one day performances with Chris Gayle
taking the opportunity to remind everyone
just how good he is. The series finished
2-2 and highlighted the fact that the West
Indies may be one to watch at the World
Cup. Chris Gayle certainly will as his
career draws to a close.
In domestic cricket, we will see Surrey
trying to retain their title in the County
game after a terrific performance last year
which saw them finish well clear of their
nearest rivals. With many of their players
now attracting the attention of the England
selectors their squad depth may be tested
more this year but if they continue to
produce the same standards as last year
then they will be tough to beat.
Both Kent and Warwickshire won
promotion last year and will be looking
to establish themselves in Division One
as quickly as possible. The One Day and
Vitality Blast competitions will also provide
plenty of entertainment for supporters. All
in all it is a packed calendar for cricket
this Summer and fans of the game can sit
back and enjoy the ride. Lets just hope the
weather does not play a major part in the
proceedings!
