Cricket Club Magazine recently caught up with their Secretary Mike Buchan to find out more about how they have been getting along lately. He told us, “I have been at the Club for twelve years and Club Secretary for the last eight. Friends from my previous Club joined Sidcup CC and I went along with them as it was a great Club to join.” “Trying to organize four Colts teams is probably the most challenging part of what I do at the Club, school matches often make it difficult to select teams and last- minute changes are common. The most rewarding also involves the Colts, seeing their self-confidence improve through their time at the Club and parents recognizing that the Club has helped to achieve this is most gratifying. “The atmosphere at the club is very positive; we have a successful first team who were promoted last season and in total three of the four adult Saturday sides were promoted. The Colts section is growing rapidly, ranging from All Stars through to Under 17’s. We also have a strong Committee running the Club and a band of hardy volunteers working to maintain the two pitches we have and surrounds. You need all of these in my opinion to run a successful Club. “Off-season is typically low key but we held winter training for both Colts and Adults. Our Academy youngsters trained for the first time during the winter as we found in summer it was difficult for the lads to focus with exams. This proved most beneficial. Our Annual Dinner is held in November and was well supported along with two Quiz Nights which were a sell-out. 64 Issue 50 “Our plans for 2019 are to see the 1st XI compete well at a higher level (Kent Cricket League Div 2) and for all our adults and Colts to have the opportunity to play and importantly develop and progress their game. We would like to expand our involvement with the local community and gain a few more sponsors. “Youth cricket is very important, most of our 1st XI are ex Colts and the adult teams benefit from the youngsters coming through. We have nearly 200 youngsters involved, ranging in age from 5 to
