CRICKET CLUB
Rastrick Cricket Club was established in 1863 and for most of their long history
they have played in the Huddersfield Cricket League, currently competing in
the Championship Section, which is the second tier. The Club fields four senior
teams and three junior teams at their home in Rastrick, in the shadow of the iconic
‘Round Hill’.
I’ve been involved with the
Club for several years, initially
coaching the Under 9s when my
two sons started playing cricket and
then joining the main Committee
before taking the Club Chairman
role around four years ago. I love
the game and that was the initial
attraction but the Chairman role
is increasingly about how to run a
business, rather than meddling in
cricketing matters.

The most rewarding part of the
role is seeing our young cricketers
develop a love for the game and
knowing that we have played a big
part in that. Obviously running a
Cricket Club comes with a ridiculous
number of challenges from all
directions but I try not to complain -
you shouldn’t do this for pats on the
back, you should only do it because
you care about the game, the club
and your community.
The mood at the club is incredibly
positive; we have just completed
a refurbishment of the Clubhouse
thanks to hundreds of unpaid hours
from our members and everyone is
feeling pretty good about the end
product. The new surroundings will
hopefully help to generate more
revenue from functions whilst, on
the field, our 1st XI are riding high
and unbeaten in the Huddersfield
League Championship and our
