CRICKET CLUB
Potton Town CC is a fine example of the important role that a club
can play in their local community. Cricket Club Magazine recently
caught up with their Secretary Robert Bage to find out more about
how they’ve been getting along lately.
He told us, “I’ve been involved
with the club for around twenty
years; I started as a dad taking
my sons to cricket. I’m the club’s
Secretary and find the role much
better than it used to be. We have
a lot of volunteers chipping in now
which makes the workload much
more manageable and I can just
focus on the administration of the
club.”
“The atmosphere at the club is
quite positive at the moment as we’ve
just managed to raise enough money
for two enclosed nets. There is a lot of
positive work being done at the club
and we have some superb facilities
in place now. We’ve been very lucky
with the grants that we’ve received
at the club. There is a local charity in
Potton called Potton Consolidated
Charities and they have helped us
enormously with various donations.
We also borrowed money from the
ECB for the pavilion and our nets so
we have been well supported. The
Derbyshire Environmental Trust
have also been very generous to us.
“Attracting players is a struggle
for us at the moment but hopefully
the World Cup will have a positive
impact. We always want to increase
the number of young players so that
we can get teams at a number of
age groups. Bringing young players
through will be a crucial part of the
