They are led by the team of President Graham Bowden and Chair Michael Pulford and the club is progressing well under their guidance. Their first team has been in fine form so far this season, having put together a record of nine wins and two defeats from their thirteen league matches with the other two being abandoned. This sees them sitting in second place in the league with 207 points on the board, just one behind the leaders. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to go on and have a successful season with a good run of form likely to see them top of the pile before long. If they can retain their current group of players they will be in with a great chance of doing just that and it will certainly be exciting to watch how the end of the season goes. Wivenhoe Town is not a club to focus solely upon their senior set up and this is reflected by the fact that they also run a number of youth sides. This section of the club looks to provide young players from the local community with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area they appear to have covered. Coaching staff involved with this part of the club are confident that they’ve a number of players currently involved with the potential for a bright future in the game. This allows them to gain experience of adult level cricket even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. Another benefit of having an extra side is that it allows the First XI to benefit from far greater strength in depth. If they are ever left short on numbers through injury or work commitments they have the option of calling up replacements with a limited amount of disruption. There is much to admire about the superb set up that Wivenhoe Town currently has in place and this is being reflected in the results they are achieving on the field. If they continue in the same manner then they should be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future for many years to come.
