CRICKET CLUB
Darfield CC has made a number of changes in recent times and
are now working hard to make sure that they enjoy a successful
season in 2019. Cricket Club Magazine recently caught up with Club
Representative Kris Jowett to find out more.
Involvement
Kris told us, “I’ve personally been involved in the
running of the cricket section for about five months. I
initially attended at the club as both my kids wanted to
start playing cricket. One of the senior teams was short
last year and I helped them out and played, it
went from there really.
I was initially attracted to
the club as I live more or less
next door. On meeting the
people involved they were
friendly and welcoming,
there were also a
number of people I
knew from about the
area too.”
The Role
“I
think
there are a lot of
challenges to my
role, the main one
being to push the
club on at a pace
that is going to have
it in a position it needs
to be by the end of the
season so that we can
move on and develop our
junior and senior sections.
The biggest reward I’ve had is
the compliments from players and
members about the job we are doing.
The Offseason
“The offseason was one of huge change. There have
been some big changes off the field, we have a brand new
Cricket Committee who are looking to move the club
40 Issue 50
forward. We are aware that off the field this is a huge
season of transition and there is a lot of hard work ahead
of the committee and club in general.
We have also made numerous changes on the field.
We have assembled a first team that are young and
hungry for success. Some players from last year have
been moved on to enable this to happen and
there have been some promotions from
within. All these lads want to push
and better themselves.
We have been lucky
enough to secure the
signing of Sri Lankan
Batsmen
Dinura
Gunawardena which
is pleasing as he
was contacted by
a number of clubs
in our league but
signed for us so
we must have got
something right.”
2019
“We’ve set the
first team a target
of a top 4 finish in
their league, we would
like them to hit that, it
won’t be easy however
it’s a challenge we hope they
rise to. Our 2nd team have been
set a target of promotion from their
league. We haven’t set a specific target for
the Sunday team but I think that has to be to help
the transition of young players into adult cricket. Off the
field there is loads of work still to do which will enable
us to hit the ground running for 2020. Hopefully by the
new committee pulling together as we are we can get
things moving.”
