His true passion was education. He established scholarships for students of Hellenic descent at both of his
alma maters—Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute—as well as the PAA. His life came full
circle, where he began his American journey, at the
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. On Jan. 1,
2011, he was elected president among many applicants.
Where else can someone begin as a student and years
later come back as president? “Only in America” was
his comment upon his appointment as president of the
institute.
George C. Chryssis touched the lives of many in very
meaningful ways, including yours truly. His advice, his
guidance, his support was always on target and his legacy will be with us forever.
George was an ordinary man who achieved extraordinary accomplishments. The next time you find yourself
staring at the night sky, particularly over the village of
Ntere, look for that brilliant star that bathes your face
with its soft light; that’s George Chryssis smiling upon
this earth, and who with his life’s work made this world
a better place for all of us. K
