It gives me great pleasure to convey to all of you
a message of warm greetings and join you in commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Union of
Crete with Greece.
Since it was established in 1929, the Pancretan Association of America has developed,
through hard work and collective dedication,
to an extraordinary center of Hellenism in the
United States. This distinguished organization of the Diaspora has managed to pass on
to the younger Greek American generations the
high moral values of our faith, the richness of the
Greek language, as well as the unique cultural heritage and traditions of Crete.

and inspiration from the struggles of the Cretan people as we strive to regain freedom and
restore justice for our island, by ending its present tragedy of division and foreign occupation.
I would like to particularly recognize the leadership of PAA in its efforts to maintain and nurture the bonds within the members of the organization with Greece, and Crete in particular. I
commend and warmly congratulate you all for
these truly worthy achievements.
I am also particularly pleased to join others
in paying tribute to this year’s distinguished
honorees. I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations and deepest respect to
Mrs. Dora Bakoyannis for her distinguished
leadership and outstanding public service. At
the same time I would like to warmly congratulate the leading Greek American novelist,
Mr. Harry Mark Petrakis, for his commitment
in promoting our precious cultural identity
through literature. I warmly applaud both
honorees for receiving this well-deserved
recognition.
