Treasurer’s Report
s treasurer, I am responsible for the operating and magazine finances of our association. I also report the status of the invested corpus funds, but I do not manage them, nor do I make deposits or issue checks from those accounts. The Association bylaws dictate that the PAA’s fiscal year James Saklas [email protected] begins on June 1, and ends on May 31. It should be noted that since each administration begins on or about July 1, and ends on or about June 30, there is a one month “disconnect” between the fiscal year and the administration’s term. This means that the numbers presented do not exactly reflect the performance of this administration, but they are close. The balance sheet shows $116,832.68 in the checking account as of May 31. However, not all of these monies are available for the operating expenses of the association and magazine. Of this sum, the following amounts are earmarked as follows: $22,345 for the Scholarship Corpus account, $10,282 for the Philanthropic Corpus account, $1,334 for the Educational/Cultural Corpus account, $5,000 for 3-Year 2013, 1-Year 2014 and 1-Year 2015 scholarships $38,000 for Study in Crete Also, the budget for the next two years is available upon request. In closing I have been on and off the board of the PAA for 40 years since I was PYA President in the early 1970s. I have served with eight PAA presidents, from Costas Stamatakis to John Manos, and I want to say that they were all great and dedicated men. The PAA has been most fortunate to have them as our leaders. K

Philanthropic Fund Report
ur philanthropic committee has been active in planning and fundraising for the PAA philanthropic projects. Our first fundraiser began with the nationwide “Relief for Crete” program. We reached out to our chapters, their members and Evangeline friends as an ongoing funAlpogianis [email protected] draising effort for the PAA. Thanks to the Cretan generosity, more than $110,000 was raised. The next event was the “Agape on the Terrace,” event on June 8, 2012, at the Hellenic Museum in Chicago, where over $75,000 was raised. The two fundraisers allowed our philanthropic fund to provide financial aid and relief to all four prefectures of Crete. With the help of the International Orthodox Christian Charities, we were able to leverage our gifts and send three large shipping containers with medical supplies valued at over $1.5 million. Another successful fundraiser was “A Taste of Wine, A Gift of Giving,” held on June 5, 2013, in Chicago where we raised over $33,000. I cannot thank enough the people of the philanthropic committee, the people who worked on all of the fundraisers, the board for being so generous with their time and donations, and most of all, you for all of your support! Serving as the PAA philanthropic fund chair has been a wonderful, gratifying experience. K
