Eufriesea are medium to large
bees (13-27mm) with metallic
coloration. The middle part of
the body (the mesosoma, Fig. 3)
is often dark, but many species
have some metallic green colour
around the “shoulders”. The
posterior part of the body (the
metasoma, Fig. 3) is normally
more colourful (Fig. 12), is hairy
towards its posterior half, and the
hind leg is thick and rounded 25 . Son abejas medianas a grandes

This genus includes 66 highly
variable-looking species 22 . Some
species are similar to those of
the genus Euglossa, but can be
distinguished from them by not
having an ivory-coloured labrum
on the face (Figs 3, 15). Others are
similar to species of Eulaema, but
can be distinguished by the fact
that Eufriesea bees have metallic
colouration on the face, whilst
in Eulaema the face is dark
in colour 5 . El género incluye 66 especies
de aspecto muy variable 22 .
Algunas especies son parecidas
a las del género Euglossa,
pero pueden distinguirse de
estas al no tener un labro de
color marfil en la cara (Figs.
3, 15). Otras son similares a
las de Eulaema, pero pueden
diferenciarse por que Eufriesea
tiene coloración metálica en la
cara, y en Eulaema es de
color oscuro 5 .
