High school is a stressful time, it's full of constant changes, hard decisions, and so much homework. The stress can become too much on many students. A survey conducted in 2014 by the American Psychological Association showed that, “during the school year, teens say that their stress level is higher than levels reported by adults...” The stress set in place is not healthy for the mind or body. With this mental health issues, commonly depression and anxiety start to weave into students lives. When experiencing these two things, both illnesses become consuming and can overwhelm someone to the point of breaking. Depression and anxiety can make you feel isolated, like a freak or an outcast. You close yourself off and as any illness it grows worse and worse.Unlike what your mind may tell you, you have options and people within your community wanting to help you. I did an interview with Mrs. Meiers, the schools interventionist asking her about what the school can provide for those of us who are suicidal and seeking help or just generally seeking hell in general. “Well it's a case by case situation,” she said, “ I have to see each student individually and then evaluate how to help them. For some I am able to find them therapists outside of school and see their insurance plan and such. Others I personally oversee and check on, so it really depends. No matter what I am there for them and do as much as I can to help them.” She truly does want to help the students.
