36%​ say they ​have ​bullied another person. Verbal​ bullying uses put-downs to exclude someone. Sometimes gossip can fall into this category, but sometimes gossip is simply unkind. ​Physical​ bullying is using force or unwanted touching to hurt or coerce someone. Bullying on ​social media​ uses posts to hurt or exclude someone. It includes making fraudulent posts in someone’s name. At the end of the survey I reflected on the statistics from our October issue. Only ​64% ​of people who are bullied actually report it. Some of our results may be influenced by that statistic. It honestly surprised me how many people said that they have bullied someone else and have been bullied themselves. If you see someone being bullied, here are some things you could do: ➔ Don’t join in. Bullies like an audience. ➔ Stand up for the person. ➔ Tell an adult. ➔ Encourage victim of bullying to tell an adult. ➔ Offer support. Keep Silver Creek a happy and safe place and reduce bullying.
