CREEK OUTREACH: VOL.2
Impacts and Opportunities
By Holly Chilson and Ryleigh Thompson
Creek Outreach will be informing you of the many incredible acts of service made at Silver Creek and how you can help. Silver Creek’s Outreach programs have been having not only a huge impact throughout the school, but also around the community and even the world.
Children’s Hospital Impact
When it comes to helping others, one resource that has a sole dedication to just that is the Children’s Hospital. It is one of many places with a sole dedication to the care of others. Mr. Tonjes, our school Vice Principal and athletic director, knows the full worth of giving back. While doing so much for our school and sports teams, he is giving back even more. Mr. Tonjes has an outreach of where he takes Silver Creek Students to volunteer at the Children’s Hospital. When asked why this outreach was important to him, Mr. Tonjes replied, “it's important because I have a passion for kids. I don't believe that kids should have hard lives or have to suffer. Anything that can be done to make sure their minds are away from their illnesses is always a bonus.”
This outreach started two years ago while he was looking for ways that student athletes could give back to their communities. He says that he couldn’t think of a better way for this to happen, and to also make a difference and impact on the lives of young children. His advice to the young students who have a passion for helping others? “Do it. Try not to tell yourself that you don't have the time or it won't be appreciated. Even if you make a difference in the life of just one person the time is definitely worth it.” Want to join this awesome outreach and volunteer opportunity? Swing by Mr. Tonjes’ office and let him know about your interest. From there, he will work out a time to go and volunteer. Don’t miss this amazing chance to help encourage and lift the spirits of kids in the hospital. Talk to Mr. Tonjes today, or email him at [email protected].
