Tied to our vision, anchored by our values, building on our strengths He expressed the necessity for co-operation among cooperatives in the Credit Union movement and pledged that the league will continue its efforts towards education and collaboration. He emphasized the league’s mandate to promote improved awareness of the co-operative sector throughout the state. He commended the GPSCCU on the theme chosen and expressed that evolving encompasses identifying members’ needs, something the Credit Union had continued to do. He reminded the meeting that all members make up the league and must work together for the improvement of the movement. Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, Planning and Co-operatives Hon. Oliver Joseph, Minister for Economic Development, Trade, Planning and Co-operatives informed the meeting that his presence at the meeting was two-fold, as the Minister and as a member of the GPSCCU. He commended the GPSCCU for overall growth and moreover an increase in membership. He commended the Credit Union on the theme chosen; since the word “evolving” was one that con notates change. Hon. Joseph challenged the Credit Union to continuously seek ways to meet the changing needs of the membership. He acknowledged that these changes require the use of technology and he commended the Credit Union for moving in this direction. He encouraged the GPSCCU to focus more on financing of the services sector, closer collaboration with the non-financial co-operatives and financing SME’s. He pledged the government’s support to the cooperative sector and informed that greater efforts will be placed in its development. AGM13/06 End of Official Session The Chairman thanked the speakers for their words of congratulations, advice and recommendations. The Official Session of the Meeting ended with a short 10 min. break and light refreshments.
