In conversation with Mr Syed Asif Ali, Manufacturer and Exporter, AALEE INDIA EXPORTS PRIVATE LTD.
Based out of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, his company produces fine quality Leather Saddlery, Pet Accessories and Hunting Products.
Q: What is your product range? What materials are they made of? Our products are dog collars, leashes, training leashes, harnesses, muzzles, toys. All our products are made of genuine leather.
Q: How long have you been manufacturing and exporting pet products? We have been manufacturing and exporting for the past 30 years.
Q: Which are the countries that you export to? We are exporting the products to Germany, the United Kingdom( UK), the United States( US), Denmark, Sweden, Oman and Switzerland.
Q: What is the growth of your exports in terms of percentage? At this point, I would say 10 percent.
Q: Why do companies prefer to buy from India? Indian leather as well as manufacturing has improved tremendously in the last two decades. Buying or manufacturing here is cost-effective and our products give customers value for money. Also, thanks to the efforts that we have made with regard to the business community in the last few decades, buyers from all over the world are more confident of Indian quality. This is a significant change. [ A few decades earlier buyers were apprehensive about both quality and delivery promises from Indian manufacturers and suppliers.]
Q: What are our advantages as an exporting country? We have a conducive business environment with all modern facilities at our disposal. The perception of foreign buyers that Indian companies are reliable suppliers gives us an advantage over our competitors. This has been possible with the joint effort of the Council for the Leather Exports and the Government in promotion of India as a Leather hub.
Q: What are the world pet product exhibitions that you participate in? We participate in the bi-annual international trade fair for equestrian sports‘ Spoga Hors’ e held in Cologne, Germany; in the largest trade fair for pet supplies in the world‘ Interzoo’ held in Nuremberg, Germany; and in‘ Zoomark’, the most important professional Pet Indutry show in Europe, held every alternate year in Bologna, Italy and also elsewhere.
Q: What are the measures that you want to see adopted by the Indian Government in order to give a boost to pet product exports? We suggest that the government facilitate participation in major fairs in countries other than those held in Europe and the US.
