Creative Writing Portfolio 1 | Page 30

Introduction

***So I realize this should be at the beginning, however, I figured it would be a bit hard to re-link all the pages in the Table of Contents and renumber them***

This is a portfolio of all my Creative Writing pieces I did throughout the semester. Batch #1 covered August through October and Batch #2 covered November through December. Each batch consisted of a total of 8 different pieces. That is including the mind maps. Each batch would include writing a memoir and two poems. For honors it was 3 pages of memoir(s), two poems (free verse I'm pretty sure), and a college app essay (unless done already, then an alternative piece). For batch #2 honors were required to write 4 pages of memoir(s), one free verse (containing one metaphor), and one sonnet/villanelle. In each of the batches we had to create two mind maps. They were meant to maybe help create some inspiration for our writing, or help come up with ideas we could later use outside of class to write about (I think).

I would like to elaborate on my choices for my memoirs in both batches before. For my first batch memoir, I wrote A Rant: Coming Out. At the time I had just recently told my friend (who I later mention in the memoir near the end) about how I like her. That's kind of the short version of how I became inspirared to write the memoir. Since I've gone through a lot of similar situations before, I hadn't expected an return of feelings. I also had to write something for my memoirs since it was coming close to the end of batch #1.

Second, my memoir for batch #2. We had the choice of writing a short story as well. I wrote a continuation of my short story instead of another memoir. Since I didn't originally have a title for the story yet (since that didn't come to mind as an important thing when I first began writing it) it's now called Building Bridges (temporarily). The short story is about Kaiden in his point of view. He's recently waken up from a coma and severe injuries. As of where the story gets, it's durng his time in rehab (for the most part). The part I wrote about is a conversation between a woman and him. This conversation will probably be more important later on as the story progresses (as I keep writing it).

Overall, I'm hoping this portfolio will be a good example of my writing skills, and maybe a little bit of a look into my life for you to get to know me through my writing pieces. I think it's always a good idea to read someone else's writing because you can maybe take some aspects of how someone else writes and turn it into your own unique way of writing. It's much like how we grow up we slowly expand our vocabulary, and eventually use those words when we talk/write.

I hope you enjoy!
