“Why do you look so beautiful?” That’s all I had managed to get out. I couldn't continue my question. I couldn't ask what I originally wanted to. She was caught off guard though. Something changed in her in that moment. Something new, something wonderful. Still looking at me, she spoke to answer my question. “Excuse me?” She asked with a little hope in her voice and a slight smile. She smiled. I saw her smile for the first time all day. My day was brightened. I loved her smile. All the wrinkles in her face when she smiles, the glimmer of light that comes from her eyes when she smiles. Everything. I was still speechless from what I had managed out of my own mouth. Almost disgusted that I actually said those words because I felt like I just put myself to a dead end. “Why do you look so beautiful?” I repeated, hoping she'd not react in a negative way. There was a long silence that followed. She just stared at me with a soft smile on her face. I didn’t even know how much time passed before we stopped staring at each other, but it must have been a good amount of time. The sun was asleep, and the moon was waking up. “Hey Kaiden.” I heard a familiar voice say. I turn and it’s Kyle. “I hope I didn't interrupt anything.” He said before walking over to the board to see what medicines I had to take. “It's okay.” I said. The woman still looking at me. “Alright, you mind if you take your medicine a little early? I have to leave early for my wife’s birthday.” Kyle said while he prepared the medicine. My medicine consisted of three pills (on this particular day, some days I only had to take two, and other days I had to take four). Following the pills was a shot and a quick blood withdrawal (although the blood withdrawal was only once every two weeks). “Alright, inhale slowly…” Kyle said as he was preparing the shot, “... and exhale slowly.” he finished after giving the shot. Breathing in and out slowly relaxes me as the little pinch you feel still hurts. “Here.” Kyle says as he hands me a cup of water, “Time for your pills.” !2
