An Authentic howl
Wake Up
Dear wild and spirited one,
What do you do when you don't know what to do? How do you find your way home when lost is all you've been for such a long time? When the light is so bright in your sleepy eyes and you just want to crawl back under the covers, how do you stay awake?
I get it. I understand. Life is hard sometimes. The demands come from left and right. Someone or something always needs your attention. The perfect, productive, creative day you planned loses priority to just one more crisis. The washer is leaking. A child is sick. The car breaks down and now juggling all the schedules is an exercise in balancing balloons on the tip of your finger. Near impossible.
Before you know it, you are just going through the motions of living. Putting one foot in front of the other is easier than cutting a path through the brambles of life. Robotically existing becomes so normal that you don't even remember what it feels like to breathe, really breathe. Dreaming, hoping, and wishing become the foreign language that you don't know how to speak.
What do you do when you need to revive your creative spirit? How do you pump life back into your beating heart? What will it take to wake the wild one from her slumber?
Dear spirited one, do you hear? The wind is calling your name. From the mountains to the sea, the earth needs your presence. Your creative energy is the healing force for yourself, for your corner of the world and beyond. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Open your eyes, open your ears, open your heart. Turn around and leave the lifeless legacy behind. Just a flicker, barely a flame, is all it takes to reignite your life.
Take one breathe, then another, then another. Fill your lungs and your soul with the courage it takes to discover yourself. Exhale the knowing love of being, simply being.
Write one word, then another, then another. Sentences will form. Poems will flow from your fingertips. Lyrics begging for measures of notes.
Play or sing one note, then another, then another. Your resurrection song will rise to the rafters. Let freedom ring indeed.
Pick up that brush and paint one stroke, then another, then another. Capture the masterpiece of yourself upon that canvas. Show us your spirit in living color.
Relish one bite, then another, then another. Taste the sweet and the sour, bitter and all. Feast as if for the first time.
Take one sip, then another, then another. Drink deeply, refreshing your parched and paralyzed throat. Be it coffee or tea ... wine, whiskey, or water ... open your mouth wide and take what you will, what you need, what you want.
Laugh out loud, then again, and over and over. Let your peals echo from corner to corner. Who cares if they laugh with you or at you because the point is that we all need more laughter.
Weep well for once, and twice, and once again. Tears will bathe the dust and the grime of living from your heart. You will be cleansed and ready.
Give one hug, then another one tighter, and another tightest of all. Don't let go first. Hold on as long as you can.
Speak your truth one time, then louder, and then shout it from the rooftops. The wind will capture your words and carry them forth. For there is another spirited one who needs to hear her name called.
Wake up, wild and spirited one. Wake up.
