CREATIVE JUNCTION BUSINESS PAGE 33 through the door. Giving 150% for an income that barely pays for your petrol there. Bending over backwards for people who take, take, take. I remember the emails I used to write in the beginning. A client couldn’t afford my low pricing after I worked with them for free for a while. I sent them a quote after halving the amount and felt bad that I had to ask for their money. I had landed at a place where I needed an income; contra wasn’t going to cut it. I was tired of racing all over town to benefit possible leads and never myself nor my family. However, I reached a point where enough was enough. If someone had an issue paying me a dollar more than a cup of coffee a week, then they were not my ideal client. It took a time to see this. It took a long time to tell myself not to do everything for free. It took an internal battle between my generous heart and business head to brainstorm WHO I wanted to work with and to stand up for rights as a business person, a wife, a mother trying to survive. Human nature puts no value on things that are free. We show up more, tend to be accountable and never miss a session if we have invested in the process. You need to know you are worth it and again, it’s surrounding yourself with the right cheerleading team. People will take, take, take… unless you show them where the boundary line is. -PHILIPPA MANNAGH, LIKED MEDIA Accountants Software Solutions Business Development A: 2a Grant St, Kamo E [email protected] P: 09 435 3426 “Helping small to medium businesses reach their full potential”
