TALENTED: 33 year old Flavio is an internationally acclaimed
musician, composer, director and teacher of his own music school
In an attempt to win his
fathers approval, he strove
for perfection throughout his
school years, and although
he succeeded academically, it
strained every fibre of his being
trying to be flawless and fit in
with convention. He left home
under a cloud at 19 drawing on
his relationship with music to
give him the courage to follow
his dream.
A dash of fate
intervened in June 2008, giving
him the opportunity to come to
New Zealand. Six months later
he was the absolute winner of
the Northland Society Piano
competition and in 2012 he
completed a Master in Piano
Performance at the University
of Auckland.
In 2014 he performed with
the Orchestra Filarmonica in
Calabria, Italy playing a piece of
music that had been a lifelong
friend. His story mirrored the
story of Rachmaninoff’s Piano
Concerto No, 2.
He was the perfect person
to tell the story and it was
the perfect piece to make his
debut with an orchestra. The
perfect gift to unite father and
son. His year long journey
to the performance was
documented in a film called
‘Crossing Rachmaninoff.’ A
must see, if only to experience
a mesmerising dance between
pianist and piano that’ll bring a
tear to your eye.
Today 33 year old Flavio is
an internationally acclaimed
musician, composer, director
and teacher of his own music
school based in St. Heliers,
Auckland. He performs as a
solo pianist and as part of the
Villani Piano Quartet ensemble
he founded in 2015.
He’s
become a New Zealand citizen
and is thriving in ‘harmonious
chaos’ juggling his teaching,
practise and performing.
