What’s your business name and what do you do?

I am the owner of Petras Raw Cakes in Kamo, alongside my Mum, we create yummy allergy friendly raw cakes that suit everyone, as well as being allergy friendly, we do not use any animal product or refined sugar. Every single cake is handcrafted by us.

What made you start your business?

I saw a huge potential for Whangarei to look into what is needed as the growing population become more aware or allergies and what they are fueling their bodies with. I was extremely limited as to where i could go to have something simple to eat, i felt outcasted and a minority - where in fact, its becoming the majority. I wanted to create a food sanctuary where anyone can eat anything.

How long have you been in business?

We opened our doors April 9th 2016 - so nearly 8 months!

Do you make enough to survive or do you rely on other sources of income as well?

At the moment we rely on other sources of income, where we are located has proven to be difficult for he many people who want and need us. So we have some readjustments and additions to our business in the coming months.

What did you do prior to starting your own business?

I was a registered nurse for 9 years, focusing on emergency care. Primarily worked in Australia
