We are a small mainly social club, made up of a friendly group of people with a common interest in our classic & sports cars.
How do you define a classic or sports car?
For us, it is simple. If you think your car is classic, or sporty, that’s all that matters. The range of vehicles in the club is outstanding, European, American, Australian, Japanese, we welcome all.
The Classic & Sports Car Club Northland Inc programme consists of a run once a month, usually on the fourth Sunday, and a coffee night on the third Tuesday of the month. The coffee night is a very informal meeting, held at the Masonic Village Hall, 224 Maunu Rd, where we chat about our up coming events. The run can be anything from an afternoon drive with a quiz along the way, a visit to a place of interest, (car collections or gardens etc), fish "n" chips at the beach, a motokhana, or a weekend away.
Even if your classic or sports car is off the road, or you haven't acquired one yet, you are welcome in your every day car, or what we term as your future classic.
CLUB HISTORY
The club was formed in 1987, and we have just celebrated our 30th anniversary. During the construction of the Marsden Point Oil Refinery in the 1960's many workers belonged to an MG car club.
After construction finished many workers moved on taking their cars with them leaving only a small group of members for the next few years. After some discussions it was decided to have a club open to all makes and models of cars. 23 people attended the first meeting in 1987 and formed a new car club and the CSCCN was born. Membership grew to 50 and stayed around that number for quite a few years.
Coffee nights once a month were held in members homes, but we outgrew that option and now have the use of a hall. When we had a run with 16 cars it was a good turnout. Now with 83 financial members outings usually involve over 30 cars. As some members own several cars, there are at least 140 cars associated with the club ranging in age from 1925 through to 2016. A diverse collection of Australian, Brittish, American, Italian, German and Japanese models.
Once a year we get together early for a breakfast run, and a weekend trip away is usually an annual occurrence.
The club is also involved in many charity and fundraising events. In fact, the club organizes a Rally event every year for the Cancer Society.
