This spring , Mrs . Cost and I were pleased to celebrate 10 years of service to this great University . We are grateful to witness all the progress here over this past decade , especially within the arts and humanities .
As we reflect on the past decade , Stephanie and I remember the very first fine arts performance we attended back in 2013 . We were astonished at the extraordinary talent that night . It energized us , and we immediately went to work building stronger connections between our Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts & Humanities and the surrounding community . We resolved that everyone should experience the world-class performances and creativity flourishing here .
In the past 10 years , the talent has only grown . Jacksonville University now serves as an epicenter for the arts and for scholarly exploration , thanks to the wonderful students , faculty , and visiting artists and experts at Stein College . I hope you ’ ll join Stephanie and me at one of the upcoming performances or art exhibitions to support and celebrate all our Stein College has to offer .
President , Jacksonville University
The Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts & Humanities is thriving in the second year under our new academic structure comprising the School of Art & Design , School of Humanities , and School of Performing Arts . Our faculty and students continue to be inspired as they explore the interdisciplinary connections across all of our programs . You will see that exploration in action throughout this edition of Creative Current and in our Creative Arts Series of performances , exhibitions and events .
The centerpiece of our strategic plan in the College is to strengthen our role as a center for excellence and interdisciplinary study in the arts and humanities , and we are living that each day here on campus . From launching the University ’ s first-ever Center for Gender + Sexuality , to opening the doors on our STEAM Institute , the arts and humanities are infiltrating and enriching every area of campus to reflect and respond to the modern world around us .
Above all , I am grateful for the ardent support of our President and First Lady , who understand the immeasurable value the arts and humanities bring to our campus and to our community . For 10 years , they have given their time , energy and philanthropic support to benefit our students , programs and facilities , and we are so thankful for their leadership and generosity .
Please enjoy reading about some of the exciting progress happening at Stein College this year , and I invite you to attend one of our upcoming performances !
