Madhvi , age eight , has succeeded in getting her school district to stop using styrofoam cafeteria trays , saving more than seven million trays from landfills each year . She and her family are featured in a new documentary in the Families of the World video series , Families of the USA : Colorado , Caring for Our Planet . The program also profiles fourteenyear-old Emily , who helps on her family ’ s award-winning organic cattle ranch . Producer and creator , Georgi Marquisee has added an environmental component to the newest shows in the series that brings young viewers into the lives of 60 families in 30 countries . Another new release , Families of India : Caring for Our Planet , introduces us to Sampson and his family who are part of an indigenous Chechen community on India ’ s east coast . Rohan , age 7 , lives in Bengaluru with his parents and young sister . Covid 19 restricts him to his family ’ s apartment and parking garage , and to attend school by computer . Families of the World shares stories like these about kids all over the world . In the 1990s Georgi and her husband Mark pursued their life-long interest in education and culture by developing the series , produced by their company , Arden Media . Each film focuses on a different culture as seen in the foods , homes , schools , communities , and fun-filled activities of two families in each country , from breakfast to bedtime . And in the new shows , children see what people all over the world are doing to protect the earth . More than a hundred awards later , after a run on PBS , the series took a break when Mark developed Alzheimer ’ s . These days Mark is doing well , and Georgi has gathered a creative and caring support team to help produce new shows . Georgi says , “ Many kids rarely see the world beyond their own city . Even travel doesn ’ t take them behind closed doors . That ’ s what Families of the World does .
