I have to say this is a pleasant surprise even for me, but life teaches you lessons along the way that make you realize that growth in wisdom is so essential for a society as a whole.

If you don’t know our story, Mimi and I go way back. I still remember the first Trunk Show we’ve erected at a small photography studio in Miami Lakes in 2011. She had an idea for an online boutique and I suggested to go further by putting up a small fashion show where she could showcase and sell her garments on the premises. Little did I know that Mimi’s Boutiq Trunk Show was going to become what it is today. 10 years in the making and it has become a staple in the Haitian community in South Florida.

We’ve had our hurdles, a real soap opera I must say, as I went ahead and continued my journey, and she went on and continued hers over the years. From radio and TV interviews curious hearths could not fathom the fact that the similarities in our businesses made us very comparable in our community as our audiences intertwined at times despite me wanting to shy away from an inevitable quarrel waiting to happen. We’ve independently created a name for ourselves in our respective category of the industry and realized that the differences that pulled us apart were miniscule and unworthy of attention.

I’ve always been one to bury the hatchet for the greater good. I hope that our reconciliation will set an example for generations to come for animosity within women is certainly not worth it. Greater and better opportunities are created as we work together. The adage “L’Union Fait La Force” is not solely for a nation seeking to thrive, but also a motto that should be adopted within our daily lives. If we focused more on eliminating the stigma of the angry black woman and put all our efforts towards building and creating together, oh what phenomenon we would be. So was my decision transitioning into wiser years.

It’s been 10 years since we’ve worked together and my admiration for her dedication to her craft bloomed when realizing that quitting was not in her DNA. It is an absolute pleasure to be able to celebrate this milestone with Mimi and I can’t wait to see what the next decade has in store.

As we reach our 42nd standard issue and our 9th special edition issue of

CREATIV Magazine, we are excited to have included the presenting selected

designers and artists. We look forward to seeing their masterpieces on

stage and to include them in future issues in the years to come.

Congratulations Mimi on your 10th year anniversary

and here is to many more!
