Anatole Ludwidge Dumerjean was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Early in his teenage years, he immigrated to the United States with his family. Through this, his passion for the Haitian culture remained core to who he is - from the music, to the arts, and the activist roots that make the Haitian people. When he decided to take the plunge and launch Pawòl Apparel, Anatole recognized that though he wasn’t sure what he was getting himself into, he was determined to push forward and bring to fruition his vision. Through Pawòl, he hopes to let the world know that Haiti is not just a place on a map. His dream is to bring back to the consciousness of people around the world that Haiti was once considered “La Pèrle des Antilles”, the Caribbean Pearl. Though considered a thing of the past in the public imagination, Anatole is clear now more than ever that this is still the the truth of the Haitian people, of the Haitian island. And, it can be reclaimed through our national motto, “L’Union Fait la Force” - Unity Makes Strength.
