INGENIOUS FRIENDSHIP ENGINEERING !
STEP 2 : Create a leaning tower
If you ’ ve managed to stack a full pack of biscuits , it ’ s unlikely you ’ ll be able to make it lean very far without it falling ! Go on – have a go ! Not easy , is it ? To get the angle right , cup your hands around the tower and move it gently , almost like you are sculpting clay . You ’ ll be able to feel that the top of the tower can ’ t support its own weight . With one hand , remove these top biscuits . You ’ ll then find it easier to create the lean , without that extra weight at the top . How far can you make the lean go now ? From this point , add new biscuits to the top , one at a time . This will help you slowly get the height back up without the tower falling down ! All this work makes you realise just how much engineers have to think about weight , height and angles , doesn ’ t it ?
STEP 3 : Measure !
Grab a ruler and let ’ s see what numbers you ’ ve achieved ! HEIGHT : measure the height of your tower from top to bottom
LEAN : stand a straight book against the farthest reaching part of the top of the tower . Then , measure between the edge of the bottom biscuit and the book . Now you ’ ve got your measurements , do you think you could have another go and get those numbers higher ? Challenge your friends and see if they can do it too !
