BEN KLICK

Brandy Reign: When did you first start singing?

Ben Klick: “I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia and first started singing when I was four years old. I was at my grandparents’ house and was given this purple plastic microphone, and this plastic Fisher-Price electric guitar that I would play and sing to ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman’ by Shania Twain at the top of my lungs. That’s what kind of got everything started. My first concert was Shania in Vancouver at the Pacific Coliseum. This was shortly after the Fisher-Price guitar and microphone became part of my life. In the car ride home with mom and dad after the concert they asked me “What did you think of the concert?” and I told them that the entire time my eyes were glued on both Shania Twain and on her guitar player. I absolutely loved the concert and fell in love with music. I said to them on the drive “I wanna be like that when I grow up”. There is no real ‘musical background’ in the family, so when I asked for guitars as Christmas gifts, mom and dad ended up getting me a hockey stick. It never really stuck, and I asked one more time for a guitar at five years old and got it for Christmas. It was this little half-sized, nylon string acoustic guitar. I got this guitar and went straight into lessons with a local guy in Vancouver, named Tony Chotem, who took me on at a very young age. And ever since the guitar and music has been a part of me.”

Brandy: Besides the guitar is there any other instruments that you can play?

Ben Klick:“I play electric and acoustic guitar, ukulele, banjo, I’m learning how to play bass and part of my goals over the next year is to learn how to play the mandolin.”
