In the past year I have visited quilt guilds in several states and also embroidery guilds in my local Chicagoland area. It is as much fun to introduce quilters to chain stitch for the first time as to encourage experienced embroiderers to branch out and use their favorite stitches in a new way. I have also appeared on Quilting Arts TV and have classes lined up at the new Quilt! Knit! Stitch! Show in Portland, OR and at AQS Quilt Week in Chattanooga. African Folklore Embroidery designs are a beautiful form of folk-art. Everyone enjoys the freedom inherent in this art form, which emphasizes individual expression through color and style choice. The threads used for the embroidery projects are hand-dyed by South African women, providing much-needed income for village communities. Leora’s business also supports the Kidspositive™ Family Fund whose purpose is to improve the lives of HIV-positive South African children. By participating in African Folklore Embroidery and buying supplies from its online store everyone can enjoy the traditions of another culture while helping South African children and families. Lectures are humorous, interactive and informative. Check my schedule to find out where you can find me or book me for your group. African Folklore Embroidery is great for a retreat as classes are fun and sociable. No sewing machines are required and I bring all the supplies needed. Students only need to bring scissors and sewing glasses (if necessary). No two completed kit designs ever look the same. They are just waiting for your creative touch!
