There’s an African proverb that says,
“The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago but the
next best time is today!”
I started stitching on printed tablecloths when I was seven, making
a present for my grandma. I have no idea what happened to that gift
but I am sure it was loved; no matter the level of expertise I reached.
My skills have surely improved now but without starting my first
project, and a lot of practice, I can certainly say I would not be where I
am today.
I met Leora Raikin six years ago and invited her to speak at
my local quilt guild in 2010. Leora, a South African
native, living in Los Angeles, is the owner of
African Folklore Embroidery™. I was able
to host Leora in my home and we enjoyed
our time together, so much so that Leora
invited me to be an independent educator for
her.
