A friend told me that crocheting and knitting were equally easy, but crocheting might be just a little easier than knitting since it only uses one hook! So began my crocheting journey that would lead me to the crochet coral reef. The ease of learning crocheting was the craft’s initial attraction, but its compact size – one hook and a small ball of yarn – made it perfect to occupy my time during my daily bus commute to work. My first projects were scarves, but living in Phoenix, AZ, it was hard to find people that really needed a scarf. Next was a crochet pattern for a pair of slippers. Even after following the simple pattern so carefully and precisely, the first slipper was for a giant and its mate was never attempted.
