Nice. I think by now it’s fairly common knowledge that the name Toad the Wet Sprocket came from a Monty Python sketch, but who came up with it? It was because the sketch was called “Rock Notes,” and it goes “Rex Stardust, lead electric triangle for Toad the Wet Sprocket, has had to have an elbow removed following their recent successful worldwide tour of Finland.” So that was the name. I mean, it was a band name, and it was a series of just terrible band names. It was a joke. Dean and I both have that record, and Dean was like, “We should call the band Toad the Wet Sprocket.” I thought it was hilarious. We had a gig, and we just wanted to see it in print. Then a year went by, and it was our name. We fully intended to get a real name, and it just never happened. I mean, the lesson in the whole thing is to do it the right way the first time. Now you guys are gearing up to go on tour this summer, but you haven’t re- leased an album since 2013. Are there any plans for Toad to release new music or to go on tour? We’ve talked about a quarterly single. There’s a Roger Miller song we did on this album called “King of the Road.” It’s a Roger Miller tribute. There’s a movie coming out with a new song in it. It’s like a kid’s animated movie. And, so, there are things here and there. We talked about maybe doing four songs. There’s no plan on a full-length album. At this point, we have so many songs from the past we have to play. © Hundred-to-One LLC 2018. All rights reserved.
