CRAFT by Under My Host® Issue No. 16 Made in America: Part I | Page 5
Hello,
Spring is here! And with CRAFT’s first issue of 2018, comes our
new theme, “Made in America.” This year we’re homing in on the
broad spectrum of producers that choose to set up shop in the
United States (we see you, too, Puerto Rico!), enriching our coun-
try and, more directly, the areas they live. We celebrate entre-
preneurs that invest in their communities by employing locals,
sustaining other small businesses, paying taxes (unsexy, yes, but
important to point out), and often taking an active role in better-
ing their home turf.
In this issue, Fred Bueltmann, our new Farm Aid columnist, dives
deep into American sugar cane farming and rum. Erin Jimcosky
sits a spell with Georgia chef Virginia Willis. Guest contributor
High Wire Distilling Co.’s Ann Marshall shares her experience
cultivating relationships with local farmers to produce New
Southern Whiskey. One half of our super pickling duo Tim Tuohy
shares a recipe for Fried Pickled Green Tomatoes, and my Food
Editor, Erin Jimcosky, and I unearth a slew of homegrown goods.
By shining a light on fantastic American-made products and
their makers, I hope you’re sparked to patronize them and as
many independents as possible—online and on Main Street. It’s
as much for your benefit, our benefit, as it is theirs. Supporting
all Americans, whether they’re born here or were drawn here by
any or all of the reasons we love our country so much, is what
has and always will be what makes America great.
